Weather warning for North Thailand

BANGKOK, 18 August 2016: Heavy rain storms are pounding North Thailand’s popular tourist destinations prompting floods in Nan, a province promoted as one of the 12 hidden gems of Thai tourism.

Heavy rain storms hit northern tourist destinations, 16 and 17 August with Nan province, bordering Laos,suffering extensive damage from flooding. Heavy rain storms will continue through 20 August.

The Thai Meteorological Department continues to warn of heavy rains that will create difficult travelling conditions in North Thailand, for the remainder of the week, particularly in Mae Hong Son and Tak provinces, which border Myanmar.

Qatar Airways A330 engine fire caused by bird strike

Qatar Airways has confirmed that a bird strike was cause of an Airbus A330-300 engine fire that forced the aircraft to return to Istanbul Atatürk Airport shortly after takeoff Aug. 18.

A Qatar Airways spokeswoman earlier confirmed the aircraft, which was en route from Istanbul to Doha, returned to Istanbul and landed safely. “The passengers disembarked as normal and the pilots followed all Qatar Airways safety procedures. An Airbus A330 was operating the flight with 298 passengers and 14 crew on board. The investigation is underway,” a Qatar Airways spokeswoman in London told ATW.

Liquid restrictions at airports 'irrelevant 10 years ago - and irrelevant now'

Direct hotel booking value almost double that of third parties


SiteMinder says its numbers show the booking value hotels are getting via their own websites is nearly double that of third party booking channels.

The hotel distribution specialist is chiming in on the direct versus indirect debate with its figures revealing that on average there is more money to be made from the direct channel and it doesn’t seem to be just about commission.

A male Virgin America passenger has been criminally charged with sexually touching a sleeping female passenger on an overnight
flight to Newark, New Jersey from Los Angeles last week, federal prosecutors said on Tuesday.

Veerabhadrarao Kunam, 58, of Visakhapatnam, India, was charged with one count of abusive sexual conduct aboard Flight 170 which
departed on July 29, U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman in New Jersey said.

Southwest Airlines Still Canceling Flights for Third day in a row

Southwest passengers endured a third straight day of canceled and delayed flights as the airline struggled to resume normal operations on Friday.

Tracking service FlightStats Inc. reported that by mid-afternoon about 300 Southwest flights had been canceled and 1,200 more delayed.
